STREET ART.
Ten years ago we were discussing if graffiti were art or vandalism, but now there are few doubts that we’re dealing with one of the most popular examples of contemporary art. Street art has become so famous that we can find exhibitions of graffiti in the most important museums in the world. Some street art pieces have been sold for huge sums of money. Guide tours are led in main cities like London, Berlin or Barcelona in order to see famous graffiti. And the same people who recognized being unable to understand or sympathise with modern art exhibitions, can’t help to find attractive, interesting or thought provoking this new kind of art expression.
Why are street art so popular?
Of course there are artistic, visual reasons. Graffiti uses a colorful, catching, very expressive language, easy to understand. But there is also other kind of reasons: People find here a place where they can express their concerns about all kind of issues: social protest movements, political criticisms, ethical opinions… If you pay attention to the walls of any city, you can learn a lot about what concerns their citizens
